Upper Keys: Places to See, Eat, Drink & Explore

Get Out on the Water: The Florida Keys consists of the only barrier reef in the United States. Take the time to explore the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, above or below the surface, you won’t regret it.

  • Diving – Key Largo is the Dive Capital of the World. Explore the underwater Christ statue or one of the many shipwrecks found in one of the most unique living coral reef ecosystems in the world. 
  • Snorkeling – Explore places like John Pennekamp State Park or the famous Alligator Reef Lighthouse. Truly both are a sight to see!
  • Fishing – Islamorada is the Sportfishing Capital of the World. So, get out on the water; whether you go backcountry fishing or offshore fishing, don’t miss the opportunity to fish in one of the most diverse fisheries on the planet. 
  • Eco-tours – Paddle boarding, kayaking, or hopping on a boat, eco-tours are a great way to explore and learn the ins-and-outs the Keys’ unique ecosystem, from paddle boarding through the mangroves in the Florida Bay to watching dolphins jump in the Atlantic Ocean, you are sure to enjoy the sites. 

 

Eat & Drink: The Florida Keys eateries are like no other, from waterfront restaurants to local tiki bar hang outs, the options are endless for good food & drinks with even better views. Way too many to name, but here are few to quench your thirsty and touch your taste buds.

  • Cheers! – Visit our very own breweries, Florida Keys Brewery or Islamorada Beer Co. for locally crafted beers.
  • Only in the Keys – Eat like a local, you are sure to find the locals at Mangrove Mikes’ Café for breakfast and Dillon’s Pub for lunch. 
  • Can’t Beat the View – Grab a cold one and have a sunset celebration at the Lorelei or eat a meal overlooking the Atlantic at Snapper’s. 
  • Coffee – Café con leche, say no more, Harbor 90. French flair, Café Moka. Pastries and goodies, Midway Café. 
  • Good Food – Get fat & happy at Square Grouper or enjoy a fine dining meal at Ziggie’s. 
  • Off the Beaten Path – A great spot to have some oysters or stone crab claws is Mar Bar, or head south to grab a burrito or a sushi roll at Bad Boy. 

 

Staying on Land:

  • Robbie’s – A place to do it all, eat, drink, shop and feed the tarpon
  • Village Square at Trading Post – Enjoy the serenity of this hidden garden with boutiques, cafes, and plant shops. 
  • Morada Way Arts & Cultural District – Explore local art galleries, food trucks, boutiques and have a drink in the beer garden. 
  • Historical Stops – Hurricane ’35 monument and the Florida Keys History and Discovery Museum. 
  • Parks – Founder’s Park, Anne’s Beach, Harry Harris County Park, and Key Largo Park are to just name a few, and each have something for you and the family.
  • Marinas – Stop by and see the catch of the day at the docks. Postcard Inn at Holiday Isle Marina, Whale Harbor Marina and the famous Bud n’ Mary’s Marina are some great ones to check out!
